Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU) offers graduate work in water resources and related fields in the Departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering; Forestry; Geography and Environmental Resources; Geology; Plant, Soil, and Agricultural Systems; and Zoology. The departments offer Master of Science and the Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Research specializations within these departments include agricultural hydrology, aquatic biology and ecology, climatology, contaminant transport, environmental toxicology, fisheries management, fluvial geomorphology, hydrogeology, isotope biogeochemistry, modeling, river and floodplain management, social hydrology, surface water hydrology, water policy, water quality, and watershed management. Interdisciplinary programs in water resources which are structured to the goals and the needs of individual students are also available. Research facilities include laboratories of aquatic ecology, climatology, environmental engineering, fisheries, fluvial geomorphology, soils, and water quality and 2000 acres of university farms. The home office of the Universities Council on Water Resources is located in the Department of Forestry.
